Manos Del Uruguay - Serena - 50g

Colour
Sunrise
  • Serena is a sport weight hand dyed yarn made from a gorgeous blend of baby Alpaca and Pima cotton. These two luxurious Peruvian fibres give Serena the best of both worlds: the elasticity of animal fibre and the fresh touch of cotton.  It is also extremely soft and has wonderful drape. The mix of fibres combined with the single dying process gives Serena a lovely soft heather colour effect.

As with all hand dyed yarns, each skein is totally unique so we would recommend alternating skeins for larger projects.

  • Manos del Uruguay is a non for profit organisation. It was created in 1968 to provide income to the rural women in their hometowns.  Manos del Uruguay is also a member of the WFTO, World Fair Trade Organization since 2009.

They are best known for their fantastic range of signature colours which they are known for still today. These have been achieved through research and experimenting with traditional techniques over the last 40 years.

Manos del Uruguay use artisanal processes with small dye lots made in pots heated by wood fire or gas. Their colours are never completely solid but have beautiful nuances and tone variations. To achieve these spectacular space dyed colours they dye each skein up to 6 times. After being dyed their yarns are sun-dried in the back yard.

Each skein is unique and there are no two skeins exactly the same. Each skein is signed by the artisan who lovingly dyed it, and is labelled with the name of her village.

We love the story and ethos of Manos Del Uruguay which is why we had to add them to our range of yarns.
