Knitting for Olive is a family-run company based in Copenhagen. Their focus is on creating high-quality yarns that uphold ethical and environmental standards. We are pleased to stock a variety of their luxurious, cruelty-free yarns.
Knitting for Olive started out creating knitting patterns for children in 2015. Over the years, they branched out into adult patterns, and now into yarns! Their aim is to provide luxurious, natural yarns that meet a wide range of ethical and environmental standards.
Knitting for Olive uses merino wool from sheep in Patagonia. Mulesing is not practiced there and Knitting for Olive is able to trace the wool right back to the farms where it was harvested. The yarn is then spun is Italy.
The mohair used by Knitting for Olive comes from angora goats in South Africa. Knitting for Olive can trace their mohair back to the farms it came from. They also achieved the Responsible Mohair Standard or RMS certification, which means the mohair is ethically produced.
Knitting for Olive also uses ethical silk. The silkworms are allowed to mature and hatch from the cocoons before the silk is harvested.
The Responsible Mohair Standard (RMS) is a voluntary standard that textile companies can apply for. The RMS looks at animal welfare, environmental preservation, working conditions, and more. The RMS takes into account the entire production process, from farms to fabric mills. This ensures that a high ethical standard is achieved across the board.
STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX is an independent certification that every part of a product has been tested for substances harmful to human health. This standard carries the assurance that the garment or material is completely safe and non-toxic. All the Knitting for Olive yarns we stock carry a STANDARD 100 certification.
