Chunky Wool FAQs
What size needles should be used for chunky wool?
We would usually recommend that needles between 5 and 8mm are used when you are knitting with chunky knitting wool. If you are crocheting a garment, it’d be best to use a hook that is between 6.5 and 9mm.
What ply is chunky yarn?
Chunky yarn could also be referred to as a 12-14 ply wool. To put this in perspective, it is more than twice as thick as a sport weight yarn and four times the thickness of fingering weight.
What’s the difference between chunky and super chunky wool?
If you think chunky wool is thick, super chunky wool takes it to another level! Whilst chunky yarn is equivalent to 12-14 ply, super chunky is bulkier still at 16-20 ply.
