Bingley Sweater Knitting Pattern by Baa Ram Ewe - Digital Download

Bingley Five Rise locks on the Leeds and Liverpool canal were completed in 1774, a major engineering achievement at the time. They are the steepest flight of locks in the UK. Through the 19th century the canal was a vital transport system for trade across the north of England, connecting major cities and commercial trade continued well into the 20th century. Although the canal is no longer used for transport, it is well used by leisure boaters, walkers and gongoozlers (canal-speak for idle watchers!). This is represented with this comfortable sweater, knitted in the round with short row shaping at the neck. The five locks with six pairs of lock gates are represented in a subtle knit and purl pattern on the yoke of the sweater.
