Castel is based on a traditional Gansey sweater pattern from the 1980s. Gansey sweaters were originally designed to protect fishermen from wind and water whilst out at sea. This was achieved by knitting 5ply yarn on small needles to create a tight, dense fabric. Castel is knit using Baa Ram Ewe's traditional 5ply Guernsey yarn; Skipper.
